The beginning of a lifetime

My two younger sisters and I entered the Masonic Home of Georgia in June, 1959, thinking we would only be there through the summer. Little did I know that it was the beginning of a lifetime of family, friends and great memories.

Like most children, I did not appreciate all that they offered to children like me who needed a safe, secure and loving home. But as I look on my years there, I remember being happy. We did chores and had rules to be obeyed which, like all children, we did not care for. Our rooms had to be neat
and clean, but with two children to a room, that wasn’t too difficult. I remember singing, playing games, talking and laughing. We rode to school, church, camp, and so many trips on the blue and white school bus. Going to
camp was a special time for all of us. We enjoyed the feasts on Thanksgiving and Christmas and, of course, Santa and the presents. Many frightened and confused children have entered the Masonic Home of Georgia and, through the support, care and love of the staff and the Freemasons of Georgia, were later able to leave and take their place in the world as responsible adults. There are Masonic Home of Georgia alumni in all walks of life. Some have entered the medical field, some have become educators, some business
owners, some have gone into the military to serve our country, others are in law enforcement, etc. Each was made possible by the advantages provided by the Masonic Home.

Although there is always change, the one thing that hasn’t changed is the need of so many children for opportunities offered by the Masonic Home and the Freemasons of Georgia.
